Toor Dal

Ingredients
- PRIMARY INGREDIENTS
- 600 g toor Dal
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tbsp Ginger& garlic paste
- 200 g Onion
- 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp Jeera; turmeric; Garlic Flakes each
- ½ tsp Red Chili; crushed chili each
- 1 tsp Bay leaf
- 1 tbsp Desi Ghee
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Wash and soak toor Dal for about 15 minutes. In the pressure cooker or in a pan add the soaked lentil, Garlic & ginger, turmeric, salt and
- add about 4 – 5 cups of water and cook the dal until done (20 min or so cook till it become soft to touch, but make sure not to overcook it & gently mix the Dal)
- Heat oil in a small pan and add the cumin seeds, bay leaf. When cumin starts to crackle add the whole red chilies and stir. Add chopped green chili (Remove seeds) and chopped onions and desi ghee and fry until golden brown, Remove the pan from the heat and add asafoetida and then the red chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala.
- Pour the tempering over the cooked dal and mix well. Add boiling water for desired consistency then simmer for 5-7 minutes finish with green coriander.
